Day One – M/W

Ok, so I launched the lego project yesterday for my MW class. I wasn't quite sure what they would think about it. After all, I am requiring them to do much more than just play with the robots like we did for Preview Day. I want them to get some insight into the software development cycle (plan, code, test, document) and give them hands on experience with programming. I want them to think about what they are learning and how they are learning it.

I am asking the students to blog after each class and to think reflectively… something that most college students just aren't used to doing. After all, what in the heck does that have to do with computers?? A lot! Computer science is all about problem solving, about using logic, about thinking things through. It's about taking a look at what lessons have been learned so they can be applied to the next test, the next case, the next programming challenge.

This is a first cycle for me… these guys are sort of my test subjects. I couldn't have picked a better group to try it out on though. I know that I will get back some good feedback on how the project worked and how I can improve it next semester.
